RUGGAPALOOZA 2010

A Day of Rugby
Where: St. Pius X High School 811 Donovan St. Houston, TX 77091-5643
When: 9 AM – 4 PM Saturday January 23rd, 2010

General purpose:
To share a day of rugby for all members of the local rugby community and to provide ongoing training for players, teams and coaches and to allow new and existing High School teams to engage in a preseason controlled scrimmage.

This is an open tryout for the local area All Star Team and we welcome participants and observers

Coaching Clinic
Field Two 10 AM – 12 PM
Duncan Rossiter, a Master Coach from New Zealand, will be putting on a Coach the Coaches Course for all interested coaches and parents and those interested in becoming coaches. Duncan has been working with us here in the Houston area and has coached numerous teams throughout the world, including but not limited to: Zimbabwe National team, Ireland , Rice University, Houston Old Boys, New Zealand and helped get the Tomball Cougars up and running in December.
Duncan is a great teacher and motivator and will cover intellectual and practical coaching methods for beginners and advanced participants. After the session, participants will practice their skills and techniques by observation and notation on the controlled scrimmages to follow Duncan’s session.

*all players must be enrolled in High School

Format
All teams will be guaranteed 3 games in a festival format. Teams will be paired based on the following:
• Geography- teams not accustomed to playing one another
• Skill Level- Good Competitive games for all
• Requested Matchups- Limited
• Last game of the day will be based on the two previous games

Award will be given out to the “Most Honored Side” for the tournament
“MVP” in each Division
All u10/U12 players will receive a participation medal

Entry Fees

$175 for 1st team

$125 for 2nd team

$100 for each additional team

If you have a Senior team (U19, U17 or U15) entered- there is no cost for the u11/u13

Collegiate Recruiting Row
All collegiate rugby clubs have been invited to attend and distribute information regarding their teams and University. Don’t pass up this opportunity to meet with Collegiate Representatives

Women’s Clinic
The Texas A&M Women’s RFC staff and players will be hosting a 2 hour clinic based around the foundation skills need to excel at rugby. The clinic will be led by TAMU Women’s head coach Jim Schriener (jimmyschrein@hotmail.com) with assistance from TAMU Women’s forwards coach Jessie Halligan and A&M Men’s Head Coach Craig Coates. This clinic will be held at the Texas A&M Main Game pitch on University Drive (http://www.aggierugby.com/directions.html)

Challenger Rugby Game
Texas A&M RFC will be hosting the 1st Annual Challenger Rugby Game at this year’s tournament. This game will provide special needs children with an opportunity to play the game of rugby through assistance from a special Texas A&M rugby Buddy. Please contact Nate Mentzer (nate_mentzer@tamu.edu) directly if you have a special needs child that is interested in participating. There is no fee for participation.

High Performance Matches, Trials and Camp
The North, South, and Central High Performance Academies will participate in 2 matches each with a Selection Camp for the TX U19 HP Squad on Sunday. For information, please contact Brett Mills at brettmills@sbcglobal.net.
