Lost Afternoon Lunch Benefitting Houston Youth Rugby

The pioneers of the Texas Rugby Union will be saluted on the occasion of the the 40th Anniversary of the Texas Rugby Union at the Lost Afternoon Rugby Luncheon, July 30, at the Westchase Marriott in Houston. Nelson Spenser is rounding-up leaders from the early 70s (and before), and many have already confirmed their attendance. This special celebration, combined with the success of the 2009 luncheon makes this year’s event a “can’t miss” opportunity to spend a few hours with old friends while helping youth rugby.

Seats and tables are moving at a brisk pace and this will be a certain sell-out, so get yours today. Tickets, which are $75 (tax deductible) and include two free drink tickets, can be purchased only through the website, www.lostafternoon.org. No tickets will be sold at the door. While the main purpose of the luncheon is to bring the local rugby community together in fun and friendship, any monies raised are used for local youth rugby initiatives.

Tom Wacker, former CEO of the IRB and a member of the USA Rugby Board of Directors, has been added to the program. Interestingly, the only domestic rugby Tom played before moving to the UK was as a member of the old Baylor Med Rugby Club (one of the first three clubs in Texas along with Austin and Galveston).

Other speakers previously announced are George Hook, famous rugby raconteur from Ireland who hosts a national radio program in addition to his past and current roles as a coach, columnist and TV rugby analyst; and John Rutherford, legendary player who represented Scotland and as a Lion — be sure to check out the video of John in action by clicking the undelined text below:

Also, please consider becoming a sponsor for the event. And if last year’s “lost afternoon” is any indication, you may want to take advantage of the special room rates at the hotel.

Once again … this will be a sell-out, and tickets are going fast. So don’t delay!
