2010 Rocky Mountain Challenge U19 Champions

The Rugby Texas U17 and U19 High Performance teams traveled to Denver, Colorado for the 10th Annual Rocky Mountain Challenge All-Star tournament this past weekend. The U19 squad was dominant during the two day tournament winning the championship 7-3 over the reigning champions Utah. Texas defeated Minnesota 33-22, Arizona 41-0, and Wisconsin 29-10 in the games leading to the championship. The championship game was a thrilling affair which went down to the wire, with Texas holding Utah in a goal line stand for the last 5 minutes of the match. Kingsley McGowan scored the winning try when he gathered a chip kick and ran through the Utah defense for the score in the first half. Daniel Metcalf (Dallas Jesuit), Paul Rogers (LSU), Dylan Carrion (Plano), Conor Mills (TAMU), and Liam O’Donnell (Katy) were named to the All Tournament team.

The U17 squad finished the weekend 2-2 (beating ERRFU and Florida) and played some extremely exciting rugby. They were extremely unfortunate not to win their third game due to a highly controversial call which resulted in a try being called off in a 8-5 loss to Heart of America. Irving Cruz (Katy) and Christian Ostberg (Stony Point) were named to the All Tournament team.
